Simms McClintock, 81, of Conway, Arkansas, died Friday, December 5, 2008. Simms, a retired Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Central Arkansas, was born in Lake Village, Arkansas, to W. R. McClintock and Lily Simms McClintock, both deceased.
Following a tour in the U. S. Navy in World War II, he earned a B. A. degree in 1951 from Hendrix College and an M. A. from Columbia University in 1953. He carried out additional postgraduate study at the Universities of Mississippi and Illinois.
Simms served Arkansas and UCA in many forms during his tenure at UCA: President of the Arkansas Council for Social Studies; President of the Arkansas Education Associations Department of Class Room Teachers; Academic Freedom Committee of the National Council for Social Studies.
Simms dedicated his life to serving his fellow man through service to the Episcopal Churches in Lake Village, Crossett and Conway. He was a long time faculty advisor to the UCA: Pre-law Club; Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity Club; and the Arkansas Model United Nations.
Survivors are W. R. McClintock, Rio Medina, Texas and John H. McClintock, Johnson City, Texas.
Regular Eucharistic service will be offered in celebration of the life of Simms McClintock at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Conway, Arkansas, on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at 7:00 p.m., with the Rev. Teri Daily officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Columbarium. Arrangements by Roller-McNutt Conway. 501-327-7727.
Memorials May be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 825 Mitchell, Conway, Arkansas 72034, in memory of Simms.
