September 25, 1925 - March 24, 2021
William (Bill) Kenneth Sales, Sr, age 95, passed away on March 24, 2021 at home surrounded by his family, in Shreveport, LA. He is survived by his steadfast and loving wife of 74 years, Louise Sevier Sales; daughters, Marilyn Vaughan (Jim) and Donna Highsmith and son Bill Sales, Jr (Lynne); sisters Patsy Hale and Marion Dorflinger; grandchildren Kelly Vaughan Powers (Andy), Tracy Vaughan McConkey (Rob), Kenny Watson (Lorie), Rusty Highsmith, Greg Highsmith, Will Sales (Karen), Katie Sales, Stephen Sales (Lex); and sixteen great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Franklin and Ila Brian Sales, and three sisters Edna Beaver, Marguerite Beard and Maribell Lloyd.
Bill was born September 25, 1925 in Camden, Arkansas where he lived until his enlistment into the US Navy in 1942 at age 17. A proud veteran of WWII, he served on a ship in the Pacific and had a love of country only surpassed by his love of family. During his career in the paper industry, he lived in Arkansas, Tennessee and Louisiana, finally settling in Shreveport. But, his favorite place was his peaceful fishing camp where he enjoyed quiet early mornings sitting in his boat with a fishing pole in hand, anticipating the tug on the line. Answering to Kenneth, Bill, Dad and PopPop, he was a strong, steady and calming presence to all of his family who will dearly miss him.
A funeral service will be held at Proctor Funeral Home, 442 Jefferson, in Camden, Arkansas on Saturday, March 27 at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the American Cancer Society. (www.cancer.org)
