BELLA VISTA - Merlon (Mert) Weed of Bella Vista, passed away On Jan. 30, 2016, after a short illness. He was born in Alliance, Neb., on Jan. 17, 1932.
Mert graduated from High School in Kearney, Neb., then served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1954 during the Korean War.
He then attended the University of Nebraska and graduated as a Petroleum Geophysicist and worked for Conoco Oil Company for 28 years. He went to the International Division eventually and lived in Egypt, England, Australia, Norway and Ecuador.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Ruby) Weed; daughters, Jeri Lee and husband Jim of Sand Springs, Okla., Linda Jones and husband Stony of Ponca City, Okla.; son, Steve Weed and wife, Lori of Owasso, Okla.; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley McConnell of Arvada, Co. and her children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with military honors to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his church, Veteran's Organizations, or a charity of choice. Arrangements are by Rollins Funeral Home of Rogers.
