Lt. Col. Jerome Ivon Saubers, age 99, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. He was born February 1,1922 to Henry and Leona Saubers in Fairfax, SD.
Jerome was preceded in death by his wife Marian T. Saubers (nee Gannon), three siblings and his beloved dog Bruno.
Jerome is survived by his children Resi Allen (Bill Evans), Noel Saubers (Linda Saubers), Pele Saubers (Ken Durand) and Mara Saubers (Nick King). Grandchildren Amy Saubers, Timothy Saubers, Daniel Saubers (Brianna) and great-grandchild Daniel Saubers II.
Jerome, a 30-year Air Force Veteran, served in WWII and two tours in Vietnam.
Following military retirement he earned his Masters in early childhood education and taught kindergarten for twelve years in the Little Rock Public School system.
Jerry, as his friends knew him, said he got involved with tennis primarily so he would have something to do after retirement. A fanatic about fitness and health, his devotion to tennis, both socially and competitively continued into his mid 90s.
Over the years, along with his tennis, Jerry enjoyed golf, sports cars, motorcycles, leather and wood crafts, crossword puzzles, darts, pool and cards as well as being an avid reader.
