OBIT

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” - Galatians 6:2

This verse above, written by the Apostle Paul, is a beautiful affirmation of the power that community holds and mirrors the heart of Arthur Paul Willcox. He finished his time on Earth and walked into the arms of his savior on February 4, 2021. His family and friends will celebrate his life at NorthPoint Community Church on Saturday, February 20 at 11:00AM, led by Pastor Craig Johnson. Paul was born on August 13, 1956, in Little Rock, Arkansas to Rev. William A. Willcox, Jr. and Elizabeth Crout Willcox. He grew up with his siblings William Charles Willcox, Mary Elizabeth Bodiak, and John Mark Willcox.

After moving to Louisiana, Paul graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor’s in Social Welfare and went on to gain a Master’s in Social Work from Louisiana State University in Shreveport. He used his degrees to pursue his passion of opening his own business, AP Willcox Inc., where he taught and guided people’s lives for 30 years. Even outside of his career, he touched and changed lives everywhere he went. He faithfully served at Kairos Prison Ministry for 20 years. There, he poured out his heart and soul speaking with and offering guidance to men living in prison, bringing light into an otherwise dark world. He assured them that they are not outsiders but in fact loved deeply by God and are His chosen children. Paul may have loved Kairos, Saints football, being a cat-dad, 80s rock music and playing the drums, but his heart really belonged his two beautiful daughters Katherine Haley Willcox Carney and Olivia Louise Willcox. He took full advantage of every opportunity to brag on them for their accomplishments, even to a stranger. He bragged on Katherine for something that was close to his heart, mission work. Katherine traveled to Africa to minister to people who have never heard God’s name and teach them how to have a relationship with Him. When Olivia made the leap to New York City to pursue her love of acting and fight choreography, he always told her and others, “I wish I had been as brave as her at such a young age.”

Paul is proceeded in death by his father, Rev. William A. Willcox, Jr., his mother, Elizabeth C. Willcox, and his brother, William C. Willcox. He is survived by his daughters, Katherine H. Carney and Olivia L. Willcox, his sister, Mary E. Bodiak, and his brother, John Mark Willcox.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Renee Matheny at The Blake Senior Living in Bossier City.

In honor of Paul, the family would like to ask that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Kairos Prison Ministry at PO Box 5522, Shreveport, Louisiana, 71135 or go to www.kairosprisonministry.org
