*Elmer Sparlin was the son of James Jasper Stephens, (DOB 2/14/1880 - DOD 1/1/1975), & Serena Catherin Stephens, (DOB 1/11/1878 - DOD 7/18/1961), who are both buried at Gum Springs Cemetery, in White County, Searcy, Arkansas. (See bio on James & Catherine for family roots on Sparlin.) Sparlin was never married and according to the story told by his sister-in-law Jewel Stephens, when Spalin & his brother James Evert Stephens, (DOB 12/4/1902 - 12/04/1986), who is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, in Carroll County, Trezevant, Tennessee, were small they were playing and Sparlin was the horse and Evert was the wagon driver and that Evert hit Sparlin in the head with a single tree which caused Sparlin a head injury which developed into epilepsy. Later in life Sparlin's father James Jasper had Sparlin committed to the Arkansas State Hospital in Benton, Arkansas. Sparlin spent the rest of his life at the Arkansas State Hospital.
