The Underwood family came to Marble township in the 1890's and settled in the Beaudry Community. Their Homestead was located in the area now known as Cortez Golf Course. The Underwoods had two (2) sons. In 1898 their son Curtis, died of Rabies at the age of nineteen (19). He was buried near his home in the median on Cortez Road. When Cooper Communities survey and developed the Village, the grave location was preserved, making it the first historic site in the Village. Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Stephens, Village residents, donated the headstone in 1979. The Ouachita Villagers Ousters #1335 installed the first historic plaque and the ornamental fence in 2002. the second plaque was installed by Village Pines Garden Club in 2016
