May 31, 1924 - August 26, 2019
Janet Nelson Bray, 95, of McNeil, formerly of Village, passed away Friday, August 23, 2019 at the CHI St. Michael Health System in TEXarkana.
Janet was born May 31, 1924 in Village to the late Mance and Minnie Bell (Machen) Shocklee. Janet worked for many years in the retail business at Gibson’s and retired as manager of the sporting goods department for the K-Mart Department Store. She was a longtime faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church in McNeil, was a member of the McNeil Garden Club and the McNeil Rook Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Pat Carmical; brothers, Vernes Shocklee and Gilford Shocklee; and sister, Pansy Hendricks.
Janet is survived by her daughters, Sandra Carmical and husband Leon of Ellisville, MS and Pam Whitt of Frisco, TX; grandchildren, Jennielea Haynes and husband David of Dallas, Chris Carmical and wife Marta of Ellisville, Sonia Hartsfield and husband Tony of Magnolia, Julie Whitt of Aubrey, TX, and Kevin Whitt of Frisco, TX; great-grandchildren, Heather Bruce and husband Tommy of TEXarkana, Heidi Haynes of Charlotte, NC, Patrick Haynes and wife Aubrey of Dallas, Adonis Hartsfield, Aaron Hartsfield, and Autumn Hartsfield of Magnolia, Savannah Whitt of Dallas, Jaylynn Whitt of Aubrey, Drew Carmical and Wesley Carmical of Ellisville; granddaughter-in-law Laurie Carmical of Ellisville; great-great grandchildren, Kamryn Bruce and Elliott Bruce; and granddaughter-in-law Laurie Carmical of Ellisville.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 26, 2019 at the New Hope Cemetery in McNeil with Bro. Leon Carmical and Bro. Ken Williams officiating and prayer given by Kevin Whitt. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, August 25 at Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., in Magnolia.
Pallbearers will be Chris Carmical, Aaron Hartsfield, Tommy Bruce, David Haynes, Tony Hartsfield, and Peter Klucar officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Whitt, Adonis Hartsfield, Wesley Carmical, and Drew Carmical.
The family wishes to thank their mother’s closet dearest friends and loving and compassionate church family for helping keep their mother active in her later years. Janet was socially active and faithful in attending church services and church activities until she became ill in her last days. This could not have happened without the love of all of them.
