Frances Geneva Strayhorn, age 79 of Searcy, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009. Frances was born in Sidon, Arkansas on January 19, 1930 to the late Floyd and Elsie Agnes (Watkins) Hughes. She was a member of South Heights Freewill Baptist Church and was a good mother, friend, sister and grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alvy Strayhorn and a brother, Abner "Big Boy" Hughes.
She is survived by a son, Tommy Strayhorn of Searcy; one daughter, Geraldine York and her husband Ricky of Bald Knob, AR; seven brothers, Delbert, Bill Clyde, Glen, Wayne, Paul and Michael Hughes; two sisters, Linda McCallister and Laverne Davis; two grandsons, three granddaughters, six great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.
Also, many extended family members and a host of friends all of whom loved her and will greatly miss her.
Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Friday, February 27, 2009 at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be held at 2:30 P.M., Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in the Gum Springs Cemetery.
