Edward Henry Ernst Horn, 97, of Hot Springs Village, went to be with the Lord on December 16, 2017. He was born on January 3, 1919 on the Horn homestead farm about 75 miles southwest of Chicago, in the same house that his father was born. He was born to Henry Horn of Essex, Illinois and Martha Schmidt of Kohren, Germany. His mother died when he was 3 years old, so he was raised by an aunt and uncle in Chicago. He graduated from Lane Technical High School (6000 boys only) in 1936 and from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1940 with a degree in Electrical Engineering (with honors). He worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Pittsburgh during World War II, with a Presidential Deferment, designing switchboards for Navy ships.
He married Marjorie Ann Gillespie on March 22, 1941 and they had 3 sons, Donald, William and Thomas (Don, Bill & Tom).
He retired from Westinghouse in 1984 and built a house on Lake Cortez in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. He is past president of the Anglers Club, past president of the Camera Club, past president of the Men’s Village Garden Club, past vice president of the Men’s Golf Association, past vice president of the Village Scandinavian Club and past vice president of his church council.
He was still busy with new inventions: a high pressure pilot valve, a pick pocket proof wallet, a high rise building fire escape system, a boater’s emergency ladder, power outage emergency light, a tornado protection kit and a board lifter pry bar.
Marjorie died in 1988 and later he married Alvera Airo (from church) and she died in 2015.
He is survived by children, Donald and Jeanne Horn of Tulsa, OK, Rev William and Kathy Horn of Viroqua, WI, Thomas and Karen Horn of Keller, TX: Grandchildren, David Horn, Scott and Linda Horn, Shawna and John Adickas, Joy Horn, Jeremy and Kristen Horn, Lisa and Ben Wiersma, Sara and Daniel Solis, Great grandchildren, Lilian, Payten, Ethan, Sydney, Lydia, Madison, Noah and Kamryn.
