Captain John R. Youree of near Prairie Grove died this morning of heart leakage and was buried this afternoon at Pleasant Home Cemetery. The deceased was 82 years of age. He was a native of Gallatin, Tennessee and was an officer in the Confederate Army. He is survived by his wife, a sister, Mrs. Florida Haynes of Los Angeles, California and a brother, William F. Youree of San Antonio, Texas.

John Richard Youree of Prairie Grove, Arkansas was born November 21, 1840 in Sumner County, Tennessee the son of Alex P. Youree, Sr. of Gallatin, Tennessee, who was the son of Francis Youree and his wife Margaret. His mother was Mary Fretwell. He was educated at the University of Virginia and Lebanon, Tennessee, earning a L.D. of Law degree. He was a Democrat, a Cumberland Presbyterian and a Mason. He enlisted April 1861 at Gallatin, Tennessee in the Confederate Army into Company K, 2nd Tennessee Infantry. He married first, Jane K. Rabb, daughter of Col. Samuel Rabb, and second, Amanda Murfee and third, Abbie W. Edwards, There are no children living.

Capt. J.R. Youree Dead – John Richard Youree died at his home three miles south of town at an early hour Monday, April 3rd, after an illness of four weeks, of complications of diseases, although he has been in failing health for several years.

Mr. Youree was born in Gallatin, Tennessee, November 21, 1840. He came to Prairie Grove in 1882 and located on the farm on which he died. When quite young he entered the Confederate army, in the War Between the States, and served the entire four years of the war, rising to the rank of captain. He was an industrious man, one who attended strictly to his own affairs. About 15 years ago he was converted at a meeting held by W. H. Dyer at Center Point school house and expressed himself as ready for the summons, to those who attended him. Beside his wife, who before her marriage to Mr. Youree, was Miss Abby Bennett, he is survived by a brother, Capt. F.W. Youree, of San Antonio, Texas and a sister, Mrs. Florida Haynes of Los Angeles, California. The funeral took place from the Pleasant Home Church Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. T.P. Harrison, and the burial was made in the Pleasant Home Cemetery.

Mr. J.R. Youree, of Prairie Grove, announces as a candidate for Representative. Mr. Youree has been a resident of that community for several years and is recognized as a good citizen. He left college at the beginning of the war, fought through the war under the famous Pat Cleburne; his left foot was shattered at Shiloh and his right **** broken at Chickamauga.

A bill was introduced by G.W. Morrow appropriating $68.00 to pay J.R. Youree’s Confederate Pension for last year passed the House without a dissenting vote. By an oversight, Mr. Youree did not get his pension last year, although entitled to same.
