Daniel Lake was the son of another Daniel Lake b. 1774 who married 1790 in Virginia Elizabeth Whaley and died 15 Aug 1827. His sons were given many of the names that son Daniel Lake b 1809 gave to his: Ballard, Burgess, Thomas etc. His father Daniel Lake, mother Elizabeth Lake and some of their sons moved to Marion Co MO by 1819. His will was filed in 1824 in Ralls Co. MO. Brother Burgess Lake moved to Missouri in 1819.

Daniel Lake was married twice. He married first 18 Aug. 1831 in Marion Co MO, (Eastham Ballinger Minister) , Mary P. Turpin (b. 29 Dec. 1813 KY d. 10 June 1896). She is believed to be the daughter of Jeremiah Turpin from Marion Co. MO and wife Lydia Jones. This marriage ended in divorce by 1837/38. They had two children: William J. Lake (b. 30 Aug. 1833 d. 20 Mar. 1909 Inyo Co., CA), and Elizabeth Lake (born ca. 1837 who married 15 Nov 1867 William J. Harris and lived in Cooper, Saline Co., MO). Both Daniel Lake and his first wife remarried after the divorce. Mary P. Turpin remarried 24 May 1838 in Howard Co MO William Richard Heath and had additional children.

Daniel T. Lake remarried Mary Pound in ca. 1842 in Newton Co. MO and had additional children with her: John Harrington Lake 1844, Nancy Jane Lake 1847, Charles Burgess Lake 1851, Reuben D. Lake 1853, James Ballard Lake, Mary Eleanor Lake, Lewis K Lake.
