November 26, 1920 - December 13, 2017
A.W. “Dub” McCracken departed this life December 13, 2017. He was born November 26, 1920, in Scotland, Arkansas (Van Buren County), son of the late L. Collins McCracken and Fronia Furr McCracken.
He grew up in Parkdale, Arkansas, and graduated from Parkdale High School and enlisted in the Army in 1940. He served 5 years for his country with 2 years in the European Theater Operation as Staff Sergeant in the 31st Ordinance Company as explosion technician. He received several medals for his service, including Good Conduct, Combat Star, Pre-Pearl Harbor, and Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Following his tour of duty, he moved to Great Falls, Montana, where he was a member of the Electrical Workers Union (IBEW) for more than 65 years. He was a Master Electrician for 25 years for Cascade Electric of Great Falls. He retired from the State of Montana as an Electrical Inspector. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1087 of Great Falls, Montana. He loved horses and fly fishing, and was a member of the Atkins Church of Christ. He returned to Arkansas in 1991 where he met and married Gladys Kincannon of Atkins in 1992.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Miskan of Great Falls; 3 brothers, Bob, Clifton, and Collins McCracken; 5 sisters, Jackie Campbell, Irene Heflin, Kate Holland, Sue Carpenter, and Sarah McCracken; 5 nephews, Scott, David, Carlson and Henry McCracken, and Roger and Houston Heflin.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys McCracken of Moreland; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family in Montana.
Funeral services are 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 16, at Lemley Chapel with Neil Chism and Kris Rutherford officiating. Burial is in McFadden Cemetery under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins. Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 PM, Friday, at Lemley Chapel.
Pallbearers are Darral Harris, John and Jackie Heflin, Bobby McCracken, Ronnie Watkins, and Walter Wooten. Honorary pallbearers are Herschel Howard, Wayne and Teresa Bartley, Ray Tucker, Avron Clow, and Fletcher Shannon.
