Raymond Russell "Shorty" Sewell, age 93, a resident of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at his home. He was born May 18, 1910, at Russellville to the late H. L. and Martha Ann Turner Sewell. He was blessed with great athletic talent and was a star athlete in both high school and college. Ray was an Arkansas All-State Quarterback for Russellville in 1929. He and his wife moved from Little Rock to Oklahoma City to raise their daughters. Ray was a successful businessman for Investors Life Insurance Company. His interests included sports, hunting, and fishing, but most of all he was a great family man. He was a 50 year member of Saint Luke's United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. He was a devoted and loyal Friend. He will be remembered for his kind spirit and loving heart and was a great inspiration to his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Olen Sewell.

Survivors include his wife, Jamie Alleene Poynter Sewell of Oklahoma City; two daughters and a son-in-law, Martha Grace Earlabaugh of Huntington Beach, California and Ramona and Harold Richardson of Atlanta, Georgia; two grandchildren, Jade Russell Earlabaugh of Huntington Beach, California and Blake Richardson of Atlanta, Georgia; and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2003, at the Dover United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Eddy Howell and Phillip C. Collie II. Burial will be in the McFadden Cemetery at Dover. Local arrangements are by Shinn Funeral Service.

Alleene Sewell, 97, a resident of Fountain Valley, California, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2010, at Fountain Valley where she had lived since April 2006, after moving from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
She was born November 11, 1913, at Dover, a daughter of James Yancy "Dude" and Grace Lano Kirksey Poynter. She had been a member of Saint Luke's United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City for more than 50 years and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, and will be greatly missed. Her greatest joys were her family, friends, church, and garden club activities. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Raymond Russell "Shorty" Sewell; two brothers, Y. B. Poynter and James Yancy Poynter Jr.; and two sisters, Roberta Sleeper and Ann Harrington.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Ramona and Harold Richardson of Atlanta, Georgia and Martha Grace "Marty" Earlabaugh of Huntington Beach, California; two grandsons, Blake Richardson of Atlanta and Jade Russell Earlabaugh and his wife, Susan, of Newport Beach, California; a great-grandson, Caleb Louis Earlabaugh of Newport Beach; a sister, Estelle Colburn of Des Plains, Illinois; a brother and sister-in-law, C. L. and Bette Poynter of Dover; and many nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 18, 2010, at the Dover United Methodist Church with the Rev. Phillip C. Collie II officiating. Burial will be private in McFadden Cemetery at Dover.
The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service in the fellowship hall of the church.
