March 23, 1943 - June 14, 2015
Freddie “Fred” G. Simmonds, age 71, of Malvern lost his battle with cancer with his family by his side on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Arbor Oaks Nursing and Rehab. He was born March 23, 1943, in Dallas, Texas the son of the late Horace Aubrey Simmonds and Robbie Davis Simmonds-Hiebert. He played in a band since he was a teenager until he moved to Minnesota in 1984, he was a talented musician, played many instruments and had a beautiful voice. Fred was avid golfer and a member of the Malvern Country Club since 1990. He served on the Board of Governors for six years and President for four. Fred was an animal lover, who rescued and cared for many animals over the years, with his wife, Linda. Fred was an administrative manager for the trucking industry for most of his life and retired from Advance United in 2012. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his step-father, Dwight Hiebert.
Survivors, wife, of 34 years, Linda Freed Simmonds; son, Trey Simmonds of Minnesota; daughter, Teri Behr of Colorado; brother, Bobbie Don Simmonds of Texas; step-brother, Ralph Hiebert (Sandra) of North Carolina; step-sister, Debra Tischler of Texas; uncle, Bill Simmonds of Texas; granddaughters, Haley Simmonds and Sunny Behr; nephew, Sean Simmonds (Cindy) and their children, Tristan, Sienna and Brennan; step-niece and nephew, Amy Hiebert Brindle (John) and Wesley Hiebert and special friends, Scott and Judy Walters of Malvern.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 16 from 12:30-2:00pm at Regency Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be Tuesday, June 16 at 2:00pm at Regency Funeral Home with Reverend Troy Cate and friend, Tom Poston officiating. Burial will follow at Rockport Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be David Holmes, Danny Heath, Bill Snyder, David Hedges, Larry Tuggle and Gary Bridges. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Shawn Purifoy, Dr. Stephen Divers, staff of Arbor Oaks Nursing and Rehab and his friends and golfing buddies at Malvern Country Club.
Memorials can be made to Second Chance Animal Rescue, PO Box 1162, Malvern or any animal rescue of your choice.
Arrangements are by Regency Funeral Home.
