MAJ Bobby G. Rush, US Army, Retired, died at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, Ark. on July 26, 2018. The son of the late Tandy and Wilma Knox Rush, he was born on November 19, 1941, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Russellville. He was also predeceased by his in-laws, Larry and Madelene Edwards.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda True Edwards Rush and daughter, Laura True Rush of Denver, Colorado, and several cousins and many friends.
Bobby was a 1959 graduate of Dover High School, received a Bachelor of Science at Arkansas Tech University where he was an ATU distinguished ROTC graduate and was commissioned as a second lieutenant, and he received a Master of Arts from Central Michigan University.
After enlisting in 1965, his duty assignments included Fort Benning, Ga., Fort Knox Kentucky, Fort Wainwright, Alaska, Chu Lai, Vietnam, where he received four campaign battle stars, AG career school Indianapolis Indiana, Pentagon, Washington, DC, Wheeler Air Force Base Mililani, HI, Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center, Aurora, Colo. and Fort Riley, Kan.
During Bobby’s distinguished, twenty-year career as an Army Officer, he also had joint assignments with the Defense Intelligence Agency, Defense Communication Agency and served as a Commanding Executive Officer of a battalion of the 82nd airborne at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
After retiring from the Army in 1985, he became the Vice-President of Finance and Facilities at Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colo., 15 years later, he and Linda moved to Russellville Arkansas where he became the church accountant at First United Methodist Church, serving for 18 and a half years, retiring October 1, 2017.
A celebration of his life will be held at First Baptist Church in Dover, Monday, July 30, 2018 at 10 a.m. under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. Pastor Jeff Paxton will officiate and will be assisted by the Reverend Don Hankins. The United State Army Honor Guard from Fort Sill, Oklahoma will provide full military honors at the church in recognition of Bobby’s service to his country. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Bobby was a deacon for many years and loved serving as a Sunday School Teacher, singing in the choir and working in the nursery at churches throughout his adult life. Bobby was the local treasurer of the Military Officers Association (MOAA) and the State MOAA Treasurer. Bobby was a big sports fan. He and Linda especially enjoyed ATU Golden Suns Basketball. Bobby enjoyed travel and he and Linda were always planning their next trip. When asked what his hobbies were, he always said “Linda and Laura.”
