November 11, 1919 - April 24, 2011
Horace Mathis, age 91, of Glen Rose passed away April 24, 2011 at his home. He was born November 11, 1919 in Oberlin, Louisiana the son of Charlie and Martha (Bailey) Mathis. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and worked in construction. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was of the Baptist faith.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Effie Lou (Goodwin) Mathis; sons, Alvin and Mike Mathis; grandson, Shane Mathis; and a brother and sister.
Survivors are his son, Charlie Mathis and wife, Linda of Malvern; daughters, Juanita Glenn of Glen Rose, and Venita Seow and friend, Terry Baker, of Pineville; sister, Billie Cavanaugh; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 27th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Regency Funeral Home in Malvern.
Services will be Thursday, April 28th at 11:00 a.m. in the Regency Chapel with Brother Ian Kumpe officiating. Interment will follow at Rockport Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Charlie Mathis, Michael Mathis, Tim Mathis, Tim Glenn, Adam Mathis, and Sammy Craig. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Glenn, Tommy Seow, Wendell Crawley, Alfred Tuggle, Shane Tuggle, Steve Kirkpatrick, Terry Baker, and Nick Rogers.
Arrangements are by Regency Funeral Home.
