May 5, 1928 - December 7, 2018
Mitchell Alvin Burris, age 90 of Malvern, died Friday, December 7, 2018 at Encore Healthcare and Rehab. He was born on May 5, 1928 at Possum Trot to the late Alvin Needham Burris and Roxa Johnson Burris. Reared and educated in Malvern, he was a retired retail grocer, and for 29 years owned and operated Mitchell's Model Market on McNeil Street in Malvern. Mitchell was a Christian and lived it. A talented pianist and violinist, he has performed with the Arkansas Symphony String Orchestra. He also loved to turkey hunt, quail hunt, and fly fish. Mitchell was the husband of Bonnie Farrell Burris, to whom he was married for over 73 years.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his sons, Mike Burris and his wife, Marion, and Mark Burris and his wife, Sue, all of Malvern; five grandchildren, James Alex Burris, Adrianne Burris, Amy Haynes, Erin Tuggle, and Erica Finkbeiner; seven great-grandchildren, Olivia Haynes, Jocelyn Haynes, Anika Haynes, Dylan Tuggle, Ethan and Will Burris, and Heaven Finkbeiner; a sister, Sue Burton of Malvern, and a brother, Elum Burris of Fort Smith.
Mitchell was also preceded in death by a sister, Alma Morrison Scrimshire.
The funeral will be on Wednesday morning, December 12, 2018 at ten o'clock in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home with Reverends Mike Fikes and Courtney Bacon-Latina officiating. Entombment will follow at Rockport Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from six until eight o'clock at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be: David Burris, Scott Finkbeiner, Jay Tuggle, Chad Haynes, James Alex Burris, and Danny Morrison.
Honorary pallbearers are Marvin Blair and Donald Tanner.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association or to the Alzheimer's Association.
