Joseph R. Simpson, 77 years old, a resident of Van Buren, Arkansas for more than 68 years, died Thursday, October 5, 1967 in a local rest home where he had resided for the past few months. A member of First Baptist church, Mr. Simpson was a retired law enforcement offficer having served during the 1940s as Chief of police of Van Buren and at one time was a deputy sheriff of Crawford county. He was born October 31, 1889 at Nevada, Missouri the son of J. L. and Martha Jane Mickel Simpson, and was the husband of Mrs. Edna West Simpson who died in May 1967.
Survivors are three sons, Joe Robert Simpson Jr. of Fort Smith, James F (Frankie) Simpson of Hanover, Mass. and Harold Simpson of Ridgecrest, CAlifornia; two daughters, Mildren of Dallas, Texas and Shirley of Warren, Michigan; a brother, James of Fort Smith; two sisters, Loretta and Mary, both of Van Bluren;; and nine grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Saturday at 10 a.lm. in Ocker Funeral Home chapel with Bruce Cushman, pastor of First Baptist church, officiating. Burial ws in the family lot at Mt. McCurry cemetery.
