August 5, 927 - June 17, 2018
Mary Alice Mitchell, 90, of Hot Springs passed on Sunday, June 17, 2018. She was born on August 5, 1927 to the late Braxton Lanier Slater and Johnie Olive Slater in Junction City, Arkansas. While attending Hamburg High School, she was voted Miss Ashley County in 1944. Upon completion of high school, she moved to Hot Springs to attend the nursing program at St. Joseph Hospital. She retired from St. Joseph Mercy Medical Center in 1988 after 20 years of service as MT (ASCP). She was the Past Worthy Matron of the Hot Springs National Park Chapter of the Eastern Star. For many years she was active in the Rackensack Theater, the Hot Springs Choral Society and performed in the Marjorie Lawrence Opera Workshop. Her many interests included painting, poetry and writing.
She was predeceased by both her husbands, Jack Harvey and William B. “Preach” Mitchell.
Survivors include her son, James Harvey, two daughters, Johnnie Lou Harvey and Mary Sue Finnie. The family would like to thank the emergency responders and the staff of St. Vincent’s for their kind and professional assistance to their mother.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Hot Springs Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at Crestview Memorial Park with the Reverend C B Baker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to a charity of your choice.
