February 16, 1927 - January 16, 2017
Verna “Tackett” Black (89) passed away January 16th after having enjoyed breakfast in bed. She had talked to Tom all morning and decided to join him for lunch.
Tackett was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Thomas O. Black, Sr. , her son Tommy Lee Black, Her sisters Clara, Dorothy, and Lorrine, her brothers Edgar, L.D., and Joe. Her favorite brother, Clifford is still with us. That’s all we’re going to say about that!
There’s still a bunch of us left; her son, Thomas O. Black, Jr.(Sharyn), her daughters, Betty L. Black , and Jo Black Sammons, her grandchildren: Michele Green(Billy), Jordan Sammons, Angelia Black, and Dane Black. Her great-grandchildren: Hailey Neilsen, Faith Castle, Trey Green, Bradley Castle, Josh Green, and Josiah Rodriguez, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Now let’s talk about her! She was a member of: Ceramic Club, Florist Club, PACA, and past president of Downtown Lioness Club and the honorary mayor of Park Avenue.
She was a retired Florist having “Tackett’s Flowers”. She also was a Real Estate Agent with her license proudly hung at Q. Byrum Hurst, Sr.’s office. (She was a fan!)
Honorary Pallbearers : Kenny Castle, JB Campbell, Heath Campbell, Robert “Dobber” Adams, Rob and Bobby Hecke, Jay Campbell, Ricky Martin, Ron and Debbie Chambers (because Tackett liked her!!)
Some of her favorite times were: Beanbag baseball, going to the Carousel Room at the track, Big Derby Day hats, wearing Faith’s crowns (although she always said that smiling wasn’t in her nature!), Yard sales (which left behind lots of stuff that he family has no idea what to do with!!), following the hood of her car with her partner in crime Bonnie Garner, stopping by for the latest news and having her gas tank filled for her at Hecke’ s , keeping Charlie Wundelin busy (she had him on speed dial!), and restoring and rebuilding things with Kenny Castle. She also enjoyed her visits with her other kids, Debbie and Charles Plymale, who she loved very much.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity or Pullman Heights United Methodist Church in her memory.
Services will be held Saturday, January, 21st at Pullman Heights Methodist Church at 4:00 PM.
