Thomas Rogers Heird, 71, of Hot Springs, Ark. passed away Saturday, January 15, 2011 surrounded by loved ones. He was born April 26, 1939 in Pine Bluff, Ark to the late Joe and Lucille Heird. He was a 1957 graduate of Pine Bluff High School. He served his country in the Army. He was a retired engineer for the Cotton Belt Railroad and owner of Main Street Auto Sales and Heird Motor Company in Pine Bluff. Tommy was a member of the Director's Staff and a Jester at the Sahara Shrine Temple. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, was a master craftsman and volunteered for many years as a coach at the Seabrook Boys and Girls Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Gertie May Simmons and a brother, Joe Heird Jr. Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Peggy Martin Heird; son, Gregory Martin Heird (Kathleen) and daughter, Lori Ann Heird (Eric Townsend) both of Little Rock; brother, Sam Heird (Maurine) of Sulphur Springs, Ark; sister, Betty June Cole of Longview, Texas; 13 nieces and nephews; and his special grandsons, Walker and Warren Heird, whom he loved fiercely.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. Service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John McCallum officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Red Cross or the charity of your choice. Guests may register at www.caruth-hale.com.
