The death of Lloyd C. Tate, 69 years old, one of Van Buren's leading business men over the span of the last half century, on Thursday afternoon, December 13, 1962 came as a shock to his many friends in this community. He is believed to have suffered a heart seizure and was dead on arrival at Memorial hospital.

With the exception of a few years on the west coast after service in the first World War, he had spent his entire life in this city. Here he was associated with his father, A.W. Tate, and two younger brothers in the operation of Tate's grocery store, until retirement a few years ago.

He was a member of the American Legion, and a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Sarah Hawkins Tate of the home at 1205 East Main Street; a daughter, Mrs. Doyal Evans of Van Buren; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Jackson of Van Buren and Mrs. J. Hiram Charles of Fort Smith; one brother, Richard Tate of Van Buren; and three grandsons, Billy Lloyd Evans, Lonnie Evans and Jimmie Evans. The youngest brother, James Tate passed away on October 19.

The funeral service was held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in Fentress chapel. J.M. Barnett pastor of First Methodist church officiated. Burial was in Gracelawn cemetery.

Casket bearers were D.M. Langston, Ralph Robinson, Dave Partain, Stewart Condren, Clovis Bryant and Oscar Whitson.

Honorary pallbearers were Gayle Clark, Claude Sartain, Hugh Park, J.J. Izard, Harry Rains, Ernest Yeager, W.D. Bagett, Davbe Holle, A.C. Williams, Dee Bryan, Ed Harshbarger, Oscar Bohannon, BIll Spradley, Herbert Butler, Theron Agee and Leo Smets.

Daughter of James Dibrell and Sarah Anna Maloy Mooney Hawkins

Casket bearers were D.M. Langston, Ralph Robinson, Dave Partain, Stewart Condren, Clovis Bryant and Oscar Whitson.
