J. Haskell Smith, 92, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in his home.

He was a retired carpenter and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Adult Men’s Sunday school class. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre and a member of the Ellig-Stouffer American Legion Post No. 31.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie “Lorene” Smith.

Funeral will be 2 p.m Tuesday at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Gracelawn cemetery in Van Buren.

He is survived by a sister, Johnnie Dempsey of Lake Hinkle; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Crowley, Jim Fine, Jay Sorrels, Jay Terwilliger, Gary Foster, Terry Counts, Dick Shumate, Carrol Walker and David Armbruster.

Honorary pallbearers will be Adult Two Men’s Sunday school class.

Lorene Smith, 86, of Fort Smith died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, in a local hospital.

She was a homemaker and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Women's Missionary Union.

Funeral was 10 a.m. Wednesday in Putman Funeral Home Chapel of Fort Smith with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.

She is survived by her husband, J. Haskell Smith; three sisters, Florene Armstrong and Essie Weldon, both of Van Buren, and Bessie Cole of Fort Smith; and one brother, Charlie Pursell of Van Buren.

Pallbearers were Jimmie Pursell, Paul Kinder, the Rev. Bob Norvell, Jim and Rodney Townley and Roger Gaunt.
