George D. Merriott, age 84, of Hot Springs, was welcomed home by his Lord while being surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 10, 2017. He was born on September 15, 1932, in Jessieville, the son of Floyd E. Merriott and Clara Jewell Young Merriott.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Henry Merriott; his older brother, Melvin Merriott; and his sister, Dorothy Ragsdale.

A U.S. Army veteran, George served in Korea, having over 26 years, both active and retired duty, obtaining the position as a Master Sergeant; and was a member of the Park Place Baptist Church. He was employed with the Garland County Sheriff’s Department for over 15 years, and was an electrician with the original Atomic Bomb Plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

He was an avid sports fan, loving and enjoying all sports. In his younger years as a dad, he and Dorthy would take their son quail hunting, along with his brother, and have so many fond memories of these trips.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, his son and daughter-in-law, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, August 14, 2017, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Hot Springs.

Visitation will be held Sunday, 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army Honors Team.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in George’s name to Park Place Baptist Church Building Fund, 721 Park Avenue, Hot Springs, Arkansas, 71901.
