Dorthy Jean Merriott, age 85, of Hot Springs, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Sunday, September 15, 2019. "We are confident, to be away from our body is to be at home with the Lord." Dorthy was born on December 14, 1933 in El Dorado, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dalton and Oca McKenzie; her husband, George Merriott; her sister, Barbara Ann Grant; and her brother, Billy Graham. She was raised in early childhood in Haynesville, Louisiana before her family moved to Hot Springs, and here, she would make her home. Dorthy was a lover of knowledge, constantly reading and interested to know how things worked. She also loved old movies, good westerns, and true love stories. She could tell stories of many actors, now long gone, and their unique characters that would make them vividly come to life. Dorthy also had quite the green thumb and was able to root and grow almost anything and was well known in her younger years for her gardening and flowers and the joy it brought her. Dorthy attended Hot Springs High School where she met the love of her life, George Merriott. The two were married July 24, 1954, and celebrated 63 years of life together. In the truest love story fashion, Dorthy joined George in heaven on his birthday. We are certain it was a grand celebration. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Jan Merriott of Pearcy; her grandchildren, Terry Merriott, Kristi Merriott, Amy and Kevin Richardson, and Lisa Merriott; her great-grandchildren, Hannah, Hailey, Brackton, Nash, Kylee, Austin and Grayson; extended family members, and many good friends. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 19, 2019 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs, with Bro. Coy Sample officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday evening. Pallbearers will be Austin Merriott, Grayson Langston, Kevin Richardson, Terry Merriott, J. D. Fladung and Matthew Franklin.
