Elmer A. Riddle, 95, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, in a local hospital. He attended Van Buren High School and graduated from Cumberland University, attaining a LLB and juris doctorate degrees. He was a member of Blue Key Honorary Fraternity and Sigma Alpha Epsilon Social Fraternity. He was an attorney in Van Buren and served two terms as city attorney, was deputy prosecuting attorney, was a special chancery judge, served as president of the old 15th Judicial District Bar Association, president of Van Buren Lions Club, president of Young Business Men's Club, which became Van Buren Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of Arkansas and Federal Bars and the Arkansas Bar Association. He was a Navy officer during World War II; he represented the Navy on the Armed Forces Assignment Board in New York, assigned to Navy's 8th Beach Attack Battalion and was captain of the Yard Office in Norfolk, Navy Yard in Portsmouth, Va. He served on the Navy's Court Martial Board. He member of First Baptist Church in Van Buren, where he served as deacon and Sunday school teacher and the music departments, chairman of the board of deacons and church trustee, and was a member of Van Buren Masonic Lodge No. 6 and a 50-year member of the Amrita Grotto. He was the widower of Dorothy Riddle. Funeral will be 10 a.m. today in Van Buren First Baptist Church with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren. He is survived by two sons, Wayne Riddle of Benton and Jim Riddle of Keller, Texas; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Mike Hurst, Paul Gant, Gene Bell, Earl Robinson, Ronnie Capelle, C.E. Dougan and Jerry Medlock. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Sunday school Adult No. 6 and deacons of the Van Buren First Baptist Church. Times Record Online

Dorothy Virginia Riddle, 87, of Van Buren died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in a local nursing home.

She was a homemaker and formerly worked in Norfolk Naval Yards. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Van Buren and the PEO.

Funeral was in Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Elmer; two sons, Wayne of Benton and Jimmy of Keller, Texas; one brother, Ralph Virnelson of Portsmouth, Va.; seven gandchildren, Mike, Amanda, Jamie, Shane, Michael and Faith Riddle and Debra Hughes; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Mike Hurst, Paul Gant, Earl Robinson, Norman Jones, Jerry Medlock, C.E. Dougan and Ronnie Capelle.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Mike Hurst Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.
