BELLA VISTA — Helen Claire Bothwell has died at 90.

Born in Holdrege, Neb., she attended Kearney Teachers College and Nebraska Wesleyan University. She married Gail in 1943 and moved to Cedar Rapids in 1952. She taught high school English and was active in Eastern Star and P.E.O. and Calvin-Sinclair Presbyterian Church.

She moved to Bella Vista, Ark., in 1981 and helped charter a local chapter of the Lions Club. Helen Claire continued with P.E.O. and received her 60 Year Certificate of Recognition from her Arkansas chapter in May of 2011. Her love of education prompted her to found a scholarship fund at Cottey College.

She is survived by sons, Robert and David; daughter, Jeanne; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two nieces; one nephew; and many cousins.

In her memory, please contribute to the Helen Claire Bothwell Scholarship Fund; Cottey College, 1000 W. Austin St., Nevada, MO 64772.

A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, Ark., on Tuesday, May 15, at 3 p.m.
