Dr. Louis H. Peer died Tuesday, April 16, 2002 in a local hospital.
He was the son of Roy E. and Grace Peer.

He was a retired Van Buren optometrist and an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Engineers in the European Theater of Operations. He was a member of the Heritage United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school for 30 years, and a member of the Van Buren Rotary Club since 1950. He was a graduate of the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn., and was the originator of the Downtown Renovation Project of Van Buren. He served his community in many ways: He was a charter member and president of the Van Buren Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Van Buren Park Commission, member of the Van Buren School Board, member of

the governing board of Crawford Memorial Hospital, chairman of the Historic District Commission, charter board member of the King Opera House Players, board member of the Crawford County Art Association, a leader in local Boy Scout troops and vice chairman of Butterfield Trail District of the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Van Buren Vision 2010 Committee and chairman of the Van Buren Urban Renewal Commission. He received numerous award and recognition among those were Van Buren Chamber of Commerce Iverson Riggs Memorial Citizen of the Year 1994 and Van Buren High School Hall of Honor 2002.

He was survived by his wife, Jean; three sons, Steven of Van Buren, Charles of Siloam Springs and Glenn of Moore, Oklahoma ;and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Heritage United Methodist Church with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery.

December 8, 1922 - July 12, 2011

Jean Gray Peer, 88, a longtime resident of Van Buren, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011 in her home.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Heritage United Methodist Church, Chapter P, P.E.O, the Garden Gate Garden Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was a resident of Van Buren since 1949.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Louis H. Peer.

She is survived by three sons, Steven Peer & wife, Diana of Rudy, Charles Peer & wife, Cecilia of Siloam Springs, and Glenn Peer & wife, Priscilla of Oklahoma City, OK; one brother, Tom Gray & wife, Rita of Fort Smith; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Friday July 15th 2011 at 10:00am at Heritage United Methodist Church in Van Buren with Reverend Wes Hilliard and Reverend Herschel McClurkin officiating.
Burial will be at Gracelawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Paul Ray, Pat Biggerstaff, Rick Biggerstaff, Richard Peer, Joe Edwards and J.C. Ray.
