Grace Jewell Spencer Peters, 97 of Fort Smith, Arkansas died Sunday, January 16, 2011 in Methodist Nursing Home in Fort Smith.
She was born August 21, 1913 to Jim and Ada Spencer of Mountainburg, Arkansas.
She survived an older sister and four brothers. She was married to Noel Peters for 56 years; he died in 1988 at the age of 77.
Grace liked the simple life, never learned to drive a car, and wanted very little for herself. She loved nature in all of its beauty, and when going for a drive she was thrilled.
While in Mountainburg she took two years of her busy schedule to serve as Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was proud of her six children, having taught them to work and carry with them a sense of responsibility and dependability.
In 1962 the family moved to Van Buren and at the age of 49 she began her 21 years of work at the Crawford County Hospital.
She is survived by numerous cousins and other relatives, as well as many friends at Westark Church of Christ where she attended for many years. Also, she had friends at Gorman Tower where she resided for 20 years. Her surviving children are Evelyn, Venita, Don, Darrell, Richard and Connie. She was also blessed with loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her duty was to be there for them, and she never failed. She was a kind and gentle mother.
Funeral service was held Wednesday January 19th 2011 at 10:00am at Ocker Chapel with Chris Benjamin officiating. Burial was at Gracelawn Cemetery.
