John
June 6, 1935 - February 23, 1975
John Garner Parker, 39, of Alma, formerly of Ozark, was dead on arrival at a Van Buren hospital about midnight Saturday after being struck by a car near his home on Dean Springs Road east of Highway 71.
Crawford county officers said Parker was struck by a car driven by 17-year-old Ricky Walker of Alma as the vehicle crested a hill. An oncoming car reportedly forced Walker to pull to the extreme right of the road. Walker told officers he did not see Parker but thought he had hit something and stopped immediately. He said he found Parker lying near the car. Parker’s wife’s vehicle had reportedly slid into the ditch on the rainslick road a short time before and he was attempting to remove the vehicle.
Reared in Ozark, Parker was owner of John Parker Forklift Service in Fort Smith.
Survivors include his wife, the former Sue Andrews of Ozark; four daughters, Teresa Goodman of Fort Smith and Tammy, Lori and Lisa, all of the home; a son, John Jr., of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Parker of Rt. 1, Ozark; six sisters, Alfreda Covert of Altus, Bea Kuykendall of Van Buren, Alice Fancher and Wanda Rainey, both of Clinton, Geneva Scott of Paris and Pauline King of Orange, Calif.; and a brother, Gordon of Van Buren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Ocker Memorial
chapel, with burial at Gracelawn cemetery
