Billy Brunson Abney, 82, of Jacksonville died Saturday, November 28, 2015. He was born June 30, 1933 in Aiken County, South Carolina to the late General Lee and Sadie Ella Jones Abney. Mr. Abney served his country in the United States Army for 30 years, serving two tours in Korea and also in Thailand during Vietnam, retiring at the rank of Sergeant Major in 1983. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4548 in Jacksonville and the Moose Lodge in Sherwood. Mr. Abney had a great sense of humor and loved telling stories. He loved his family and spending time with them. Mr. Abney also loved to play poker with his friends at the Moose Lodge and was quite the poker player. In addition to his parents, Mr. Abney was preceded in death by a son, Billy B. Abney, Jr., two brothers; Leroy and John Abney and two sisters; Cleverta Smith and Sally Oswalt.

Mr. Abney is survived by his wife, Donna Rose Johnson Abney, children; Jerry Busby (Mirian) of Jacksonville, Debra Finney (Chuck) of Little Rock, Kitty Stone of California and Cindy Wyatt (Mike) of Alabama, two grandchildren; Emily Busby of Jacksonville and Jennifer Webb (T.C.) of North Little Rock, one great-grandson, Jeremiah Webb, one sister, Floree Matthews of Darlington, South Carolina and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home with burial following at Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
