Wayne Allen May, age 68, of Van Buren, died Tuesday, September 08, 2009 in Fort Smith, after a short illness..

He was born August 16, 1941 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was the son of Armon Wendell May and Reba Martha ‘Van Allen' May of Booneville.

He was preceded in death by his father, Armon May, his paternal grandparents, Ulysses C. May and Anna Mae ‘Owen' May, his maternal grandparents, William Garrett Van Allen and Effie Elizabeth ‘Kennedy' Van Allen and his father and mother-in-law, Howard and Alpha Holt.

He is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Linda Louisa ‘Holt' May, his mother, Reba Van Allen May of Booneville, one daughter, Pamela Lynn Pilgram-Smith and her husband, James Allen ‘Jim' Smith, of Russellville, one son, Van Allen May of Rogers, one granddaughter, Lauren Riley Smith, of Russellville, three sisters, Neva Jo Robberson, of Booneville, Martha Ann Williams, (Mark) of Owasso, OK., and Linda Sue Whitecotton, (Ernie), of Booneville, one brother-in-law, Gene Holt, (Sue) of La Grange, Texas, and sister-in-law, Martha Anne Holt Nichols, of Van Buren.

He is also survived by nephews, Arthur Wendell Moore, (Beverly), Kyle Moore, Jeffery Douglas Morrison, Ken E. Poague, (Nancy) Chris Poague, Grant (Julie) and Mark Holt, nieces: Rebecca Sue Campbell, (Mark) Rhonda May Cravens, Elizabeth Ann McCusker, (Fletcher) Kimberly Beggs, (Sam), Mindy Grebb, (Robert), Laura Owen Martindale, (David), Rachel Poague and Mindy Holt Webber, (Will).

Wayne was a graduate of Booneville High School, Class of 1960, and College of the Ozarks. He was an officer in the US Army. For 33 years, he taught English and Drama at Butterfield Jr. High School in Van Buren, as well as coaching football, retiring in 1998.

He was an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Van Buren.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M, Saturday, September 12, at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren, with interment at Grace Lawn Cemetery, under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren... Family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home, 700 Jefferson St., Van Buren.

Pallbearers will be nephews: Wendell Moore, Kyle Moore, Jeff Morrison, Mark Campbell, Ken E. Poague, Chris Poague.

Honorary pallbearers will be former teaching and coaching colleagues of the Van Buren School District, fishing and coffee drinking buddies.
