EUGENE MARTIN, 64 of 1421 Dechard St., Van Buren, died Sunday at a Van Buren hospital. He was retired postmaster of Van Buren and a member of the St. John Methodist Church of Van Buren, the Van Buren Lions Club, and the National Association of Postmasters, chairman of the Van Buren Planning Authority, and a past member of the Van Buren Planning Commission. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a resident of Van Buren since 1934.

A memorial has been established with the St. John Methodist Church.

Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Methodist Church. Burial will be at Gracelawn Cemetery under direction of Ocker Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; two daughters, Mrs. Peggy Smith of Van Buren and Mrs. Marian Alaback of Tulsa; three sons, Charlie Martin of Tulsa, Tom Martin of Van Buren and David Martin of Fayetteville; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Willis Campbell, Frank Wofford, Wallace Williams, Gene Garr, Warren Latta and Joe Lindley.

Margaret Peggy Martin 84 of Van Buren, Arkansas died Tuesday April 10, 2007 in her home. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. She was the widow of Eugene Martin, former Van Buren Postmaster, a member of the Questors, St. Michael's Altar Society Church Women United, was a Station Master at the Van Buren Train Depot, a volunteer with the Compassionate Ministries and a Parkview Elementary School Volunteer. She was a recipient of the Crawford County Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award for 2004. She was also preceded in death by her son, Charles Martin.
She was survived, two daughters, Peggy Smith of Van Buren and Marian Alaback of Wickenburg, AZ, two sons, Thomas J. and David Martin both of Van Buren, three sisters, Joanie McManus of CA, Jeanie Lovinfosse of NJ and Jonne Johnson of MO, three brothers, Jack Jardel of NJ, Eddie Jardel of PA and Jimmy Jardel of AZ, sixteen Grandchildren, nine Great Grandchildren
