C.J. Franklin, 63 of Van Buren passed away July 1985 after suffering a heart attack.

He was a lifelong resident of Van Buren, a member of a pioneer Crawford County family.
He was prominent in local business, church and school activities.
He owned and operated Franklin Trailer Sales on Broadway in Van Buren and had been owner and operator of W.B. Smith Department Store in downtown Van Buren. He had also been a rancher in the Bond Special community and had been trainer for the Van Buren football team for the past 25 years.
He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Van Buren, where he had served as minister of youth and outreach, and was pastor of the Eastside Mission Baptist Church for many years.

He served on the Van Buren school board since 1973 and had served on numerous board committees. When he ran for re-election last March he cited among his accomplishments "buildings built" including a new elementary school and administration building, as well as the Clair Bates Gym.

He was a member and past president of the Van Buren Rotary Club, Van Buren Chamber of Commerce, the Van Buren Riding Club, the Farm Bureau and the National Athletic Trainers Association.

He was survived by his wife, Imogene; two daughters, Carol Menke of Van Buren and Janie Franklin of Fort Smith; a son, Jimmy of Van Buren; a sister, Renna Katherine Calhoun of Van Buren, and a grandson.

Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church in Van Buren with Reverends Stanley Daniel and Murl Walker officiating. Burial was at Gracelawn Cemetery.

Imogene Franklin, 88, of Fort Smith, formerly of Van Buren, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, in Fort Smith.

She was the retired co-owner of W.B. Smith Store in Van Buren and a former employee of Ocker Monument Co. and Ocker Funeral Home. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Van Buren and the Lydia Sunday school class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.J. Franklin, in July 1985.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol Henson of Rogers and Janie Garner and her husband Kerry of Van Buren; one grandson, Rusty Menke and his wife Amy of Rogers; one stepgranddaughter, Tracy Garner of Little Rock; and three great-grandchildren, Rodney, Colby and Abery Menke, all of Rogers.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.

Pallbearers will be R.W., Michael and Ronny Ocker and Bill and Keith Moore.

Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons and their wives of First Baptist Church and the staff of Methodist Health and Rehabilitation.
