Thelma Rea Brasuell, 97 of Van Buren passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014 in a local hospital.

She was a retired bookkeeper at Crawford Construction Co. and a member of 1st Southern Baptist Church in Central City, AR. She was a lifetime member of Women in Construction and a lifelong resident of Crawford County. In 1964 she started her college education and graduated in 1966 to begin her working career. She competed at the state level up to the age of 90 in the Senior Olympics where she won five events and earned more than 15 Gold medals in the regionals. In 2010 she was awarded the Silver Sneakers Inspirational Award.

She was preceded in death by both parents William & Myrtle (Webb) Toney, her husband Luther Clyde Brasuell , her son Luther "Jack" Brasuell and her great grandson Steven Christopher Owings.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Monday, January 20, 2014 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.

She is survived by two sons Dale and Ronald Brasuell both of Van Buren; one sister Ida Mae Hayden of Barling; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; three nieces.

Family will meet with relatives and friends Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 2-4 PM at Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren 700 Jefferson Street.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Shawn Brasuell, Austin Brasuell, Kody Brasuell, Toney Brasuell, Ben Brasuell, Luke Brasuell and Clay Hampton.
