Henry Wilcox was born on August 4, 1800 in Utica, New York.

He passed from this life on July 15, 1864 in Van Buren, Arkansas.

He was left as an orphan at an eary age. He was educated in Hamilton College in New York. In 1826 he was engaged as a private instructor to the family of ex-Govenor Floyd of Virginia.

In 1828 he went to Marion County, Missouri to teach.
He married Miss Sarah P. Pettus, daughter of Thomas and Rhoda Dawson Pettus in 1829.
To this marriage was born four children, Granville, Rebecca Wilcox Thompson, Juliette E. Wilcox Lacy and Antoinette Wilcox Schaurte.

Mr. Wilcox taught a few years after his marriage and then conducted the Western Hotel, at Palmyra for two years. In 1848 he began the study of law, and in 1845 he came to Van Buren and was soon admitted to the bar.

He devoted his entire attention to this profession, and was one of the legal lights of Northwestern Arkansas for over twenty years.

He was school commisioner of Crawford County for several years, and I.O.O.F.
