*Obituary
Kate S. Swaffar died Friday, August 1, 1980 at the age of 96 at East Pepperell, Mass. She taught for many years in the Van Buren School systems.
She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church the Trinity Guild, the Mary Percival Chapter of the daughters of the American Revolution the Mary Lee Chapter of the United daughters of the confederacy and was a member of the Arkansas retired Teachers Association. She was the oldest living member of the John steward family pioneers of Crawford County. Mrs. Swaffar was the oldest communicant member of Tinity Episcopal Church.
She graduated from the Tahlequah Normal School and taught in the Lehigh School in the Indian Territory after receiving her degree. She was a 1901 graduate of Van Buren High School and taught at Shibley Oak grove. Bond Special. and retired from King Elementary.
Funeral services were held at 10 a,m Monday at the Ocker Memorial Chapel with burial at the Fairview cemetery.
