**obituary
The Calico Rock Progress, Calico Rock, Arkansas, May 29, 1931:

On Saturday, May 16, at 11 o’clock the Death Angels visited the home of Mrs. R. I Kerley and took from us a loving companion and father, Mr. Richard I. Kerley. He was born April 29, 1863, died May 16, 1931, being 68 years, 2 weeks and 3 days old. He had been sick only 8 weeks but he bore his suffering with patients. He was a true and faithful father, always stood for what he thought was right and will be greatly missed. He had lived on the old home place 35 years up till the time of his death.

He leaves to mourn his departure a companion and 8 children, Marvin T. Kerley, Calvin C. Kerley, Ora G. Kerley, Clovis E. Kerley, Misses Mary and Lyda Kerley of Elizabeth, Mrs. J. D. Nimmo of Hopewell and Mrs. Chester Hall of Chastain. Only four children were by his bedside when he passed away.

The sorrowing family must comprehend him as he sleeps in perfect sleep. It was so hard to give him up but the good Lord knoweth best, he doeth all things well. He giveth and also taketh away. Death is no respector of person. It visits the old, the young, the troubles and the gay at the still hours of night or the noon hour of day. It visits the rich in the marble halls as well as the poor from the most humble cottage.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. N. Smith of Elizabeth. He made a kind and impressive talk though the human tongue is powerless to utter words that will cheer the family in so great a grief. But Devine Authority says “In my Father’s house are many mansions, I go to prepare a place for you” while we know he can not come back ot us, yet we can go to him.
