Betty Jewel Walls (GWFH)
July 31, 1933 - October 28, 2020

Betty J. Walls, of Harrisburg, departed this life Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at the NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro, at the age of 87.

She was born July 31, 1933 in Harrisburg, the daughter of the late James Silas Walls, Sr. and Nora Bell Hinsley Walls. Betty was a lifetime resident of Harrisburg and a graduate of Harrisburg High School. Following high school, she began her working career at the Johansen's Shoe Factory in Harrisburg. She also helped Mrs. Elnora King at the Dairy Queen and later opened her own Dairy Queen. From there, she opened her restaurant, Betty's Kountry Kafe`. Betty was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Harrisburg where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Betty was loved by all who knew her and the relationships she enjoyed through her business will always be cherished. She was always the first person to make sure that the needs of people were taken care of. She was very supportive of her town and always willing to give her fair share to fund raisers around town. Betty was known as the "Keeper of Orphans" and she certainly loved and cared for children. When she had her Dairy Queen across from the school, Kids would come over for their lunch and she would have it ready because she knew what they wanted. Sometimes parents wouldn't even pay her until Friday, but she was going to make sure those kids had lunch! She was famous for her "Betty Burger"! In her restaurant, there was always a card game or a board game going at a table and Betty really enjoyed that fellowship. Betty retired from the restaurant business at the age of 80, after 56 years in the business, but Betty and her Kountry Kafe` will be remembered for many years to come.

She is survived by her brother, J.S. Walls, Jr. (Tina) of Harrisburg, special caretakers and nieces and nephews, Tricia Brown, Kathy Murphy, Barry Walls and Karen Carpenter, and granny's children, Veronica, Holly, Patrick, Chad, Justin, Zachary and Lauren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, Birdie Sue, Emmitt, Vera, Francis, Bill, and Clara Mae, and by Ronnie Branyan, who she raised as a son and Matthew Branyan.

Private Family Graveside Services are set for 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Farm Hill Cemetery in Harrisburg with Rev. Mike Utley officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Gregg-Weston Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Farm Hill Cemetery.
