Ada Susan Alexander Barber was born on February 23, 1838 in Wilkes County, North Carolina, USA

She married William Morgan Barber in approximately 1858 and to this union was born a son, Edward Andrew Barber and two daughters, Mary Ellis Barber and Anna Hill Barber.

Her husband passed away in 1864.

In 1870 at the age of 32 she and her family moved with her brother, William to Van Buren, Arkansas.

In 1872 at the age of 34 she married Benjamin Decherd.
The family lived in Alma, Arkansas by 1880 and her husband Ben served as Crawford County Judge. They returned to Van Buren by 1900.

She departed this life on January 25, 1908 in Van Buren, Arkansas at the age of 69 and was buried at Fairview Cemetery.
