FAYETTEVILLE - Alfred "Gene" Baskin, 88, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed Sunday, Jan. 3, in his home. At his side were his wife and daughter.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma Carmack Baskin; brothers, Bob and Buddy Baskin; sister, Juanita Clark.

Gene is survived by his wife, Stephanie (47 years); daughter, Pamela Sargent (Richard); and sons, Michael Baskin, Bill Baskin (Penny), James Baskin (Patricia), Rick Baskin (Leanne), and Duane Baskin Kara). Gene is also survived by 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Stepp; and brother, Duane Baskin (Louetta).

"Gene" as he was known by his family and friends, was born in Springdale, Ark, on July 17, 1932.

Gene spent time serving in the U.S. Air Force during Korean war; afterward he began raising his family in Southern California. They returned home to Arkansas in 1976, where his family roots date back to Gene's great-grandparents.

Gene was a proud and accomplished local businessman in Northwest Arkansas where he and his wife Stephanie owned and operated a local car dealership, trucking business and antique shop, before retiring with health complications. Gene's much-loved wife spent many years at his side continuing to care for Gene after a stroke in 2005. They were longtime members of Brush Creek Baptist Church.

There will be a small, private service.
