Johnnie Charles "John" Bell of North Richland Hills, Texas, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013 in his home.
He was born Dec. 14, 1934, in Fort Smith to Fletcher and Mary Jamison Bell.
He worked with McCrory's Store as a store Manager, as their National Employee & Labor Relations Director. He was retired from Wal-Mart Stores as Vice President of Human Resources of their Logistics Systems. He was a graduate of Van Buren High School, Westark College and the University of Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, making an around the world tour in 1954 aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Ross. John was an avid golfer. Having played the Old Course, St. Andrews, Scotland, and making a hole in one were among his favorite memories. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Saginaw, Texas, where he served on the Mission Team. He was a former member of the First Baptist Church, Van Buren where he served as a Bible Teacher, Deacon and in the Open Hands (Food) Ministry. Earlier, the Bells had lived in three pioneer mission areas. He served as President of the Baptist Convention of Pennsylvania/South Jersey. He also made mission trips in North America, Europe & India.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother and a brother, Jim Bell.
He is survived by his wife, Nadean Riley Bell; a daughter, Cindy Macon and husband Roger of Newark, Texas; two grandsons, Alan Macon and wife Jenn of Keller, Texas, and Ben Macon and wife Jasmine of El Paso, Texas; one great-granddaughter, Madison Maco; a sister, Mary Coble of Van Buren; two brothers, Gene Bell of Van Buren and Carl Bell and wife Annie of Springdale; a stepbrother, Dolan Pitts of Clearwater, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 7th, 2013, 10:00am at First Baptist Church Chapel of Van Buren with Rev. George O'Neel,Rev. Pepper Bourlon and Dr. Don Rone Officiating.
