Sam A. Sloan, 77, of Van Buren died Thursday, June 17, 1999 in McAlester, Oklahoma.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II who served on the U.S.S. Colorado n the Pacific. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and the American Legion. He was a retired superintendent of the Stuttgart School System. He was a former football official for the AIC and former director of Arkansas Boys State.
Funeral service was held 3p.m. Monday in Trinity Episcopal Church in Van Buren with burial at Newberry Chapel in Alma under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his friend, Judy Steward; one daughter, Sammye Sloan Schell of Newtown,Conn.; one son, Sterling of Hazen; and three grandchildren, Sloan, Spencer and Emma Schnell, all of Newtown, Conn.
Pallbearers were Austin Hanner, D.F. Womack, Dean Laird, Ned Moseley, Ray and Bob Vandergriff, Hershell Qualls, Wesley Rooks and Zack Turner.
