SPRINGDALE - LaJoice Baker Atkins, 85, of Springdale passed away on Aug. 1, 2008, in Fayetteville. She was born May 13, 1923, in Springdale to Harvey Lee and Nell Edna Forquer Baker.

She is a beloved and wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Springdale and the United Methodist Women. She was employed for years with Welch's Foods and most recently with Layman's, Inc. as an accountant where she retired in 1987. She enjoyed activities with her church, grandchildren and family and was grateful to be such a close part of their lives and enrichment. She demonstrated to each of us a confident Christian perspective and a quiet contentment that was an exemplary example of peace, humility and acceptance to everyone in her life.

She is survived by one son, Glenn Edward Atkins and his wife, Carla Muruaga-Atkins of Springdale; five grandchildren, Grant Edward Atkins, Morgan Elizabeth Atkins, Corbin Nicole Atkins, Brenton Joseph Muruaga, and Ashley Buckle Riggins, and four great-grandchildren, Kenleigh Riggins, Zachery Riggins, Chloe Riggins, and Connor Riggins, all of Springdale and many family and friends throughout the country.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Lee and Nell Edna Forquer Baker; her husband, Ewell Clayton Atkins; her grandson, Frederick Nicholas Buckle, and her aunt and uncle, Grover Truman "Vic" and Dorothy Jesse Gill Leslie. We are confident they are together again.

She and the family will remain forever grateful to the compassionate care-givers at the First United Methodist Church (www.fumcwired.com) in Springdale, the Washington Regional Medical Center's Senior Specialty Unit (www.wregional.com) in Fayetteville, The Maples at Har-Ber Meadows, Springdale (www.TheMaples.org) and the Circle of Life Hospice, Springdale, (www.NWACircleOfLife.com). Each of you gave her comfort and dignity in death and her family encouragement, support and hope.

Visitation with the family present will be from 2 p.m.until 4 p.m. todayat Sisco Funeral Chapel (www.SiscoFuneral.com) in Springdale.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Springdale under the direction of Sisco Funeral Chapel (www.SiscoFuneral.com) with the Rev. Judy Van Hoose officiating. She will be interred beside her husband and with the Baker Family at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale.
