James Troy Hellums son of Walter Presley Hellums and Lillie (Porterfield) Hellums. Melba Ray (Owens) Hellums daughter of Ray Maxwell Owens and Selena Ola "Ozzie" (Yancey) Owens. Troy was born in Larkin, Izard County, Arkansas and died Batesville, Independence County, Arkansas. Melba was born in Brockwell, Izard County, Arkansas and died Salem, Fulton County, Arkansas.

Troy Hellums

Troy Hellums, son of the late Walter Presley Hellums and Lilie Porterfield Hellums was born July 30, 1925, in Larkin, Ark. He died Jan. 16, 2006, in Batesville, Ark., at the age of 80. He was united in marriage to Melba Owens in 1944. He was a farmer and spent 12 years in Washington farming open land before returning to Arkansas. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Belview Baptist Church in Melbourne.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 60 years; Melba Hellums of the home; five sons and daughters-in-law, James and Janice Hellums of Brockwell, Albert and Kathy Hellums of Brockwell, Steven and Ann Hellums of Kansas City, Mo., Leon and Bertha Hellums of Melbourne, and Ricky and Teresa Hellums of Salem; two daughters in sons-in-law, Louise and Graden Melton of Brockwell, and Bonnie and Dean Reynolds of Agnos; 13 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, five sisters and four grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Jan. 18 at Belview Baptist Church in Melbourne with Dave Seaborn and Ray Carneal officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital.Pallbearers were Roger Melton, Walter Hellums, Joey Duncan, Roy Hellums, Shawn Hellums, Steven Hellums, Troy Hellums and Nathan Hellums.

OXFORD — Melba Owens Hellums, 83, of Oxford died Sunday, May 29, 2011, in Salem.

Born Jan. 4, 1928, in Brockwell, she was the daughter of Ray and Ozzie Yancey Owens. She was united in marriage to Troy Hellums in 1944 in Brockwell. She was employed at Baxter Laboratories in Mountain Home. She was a member of Belview Baptist Church for more than 40 years.

Survivors include five sons, James Hellums and Albert Hellums, both of Brockwell, Steven Hellums of Kansas City, Mo., Leon Hellums of Melbourne and Rick Hellums of Salem; two daughters, Louise Melton of Brockwell and Bonnie Reynolds of Agnos; two brothers, Jim Owens of Oxford and Darrell Owens of Dolph; a sister, Barbara Owens of Jonesboro; 13 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Dale Owens and Charles Owens; and three sisters, Katherine Hellums, Mary Owens and Velma McVey.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. today at Belview Baptist Church with Raymon Carneal and Rick Burke officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.

Pallbearers were Roger Melton, Nathan Hellums, Troy Hellums, Steven Hellems, Joey Duncan and Roy Hellums.
