Nancy Smith, 73, of Hot Springs went to be with her Lord surrounded in peace and grace on March 26, 2016.

She was born September 7, 1942 in Benton, Arkansas to the late John Edward Clark and Connie Lorene Gilmore.

Nancy's family lovingly referred to her as "Nan". They remember her as a beautiful, classy and wise woman who loved her children and grandchildren above all else, her close friends, her puppies, and was always serving others. Nancy also really enjoyed reading, a cup of coffee and some shopping!

Nancy attended LPN school, was a graduate of the Hot Springs School of Cosmetology and also the Broadway School of Real Estate.

While her children were growing up Nancy was truly a homemaker and a remarkable and caring mother who loved celebrating the holidays. She was an extremely talented and successful cosmetologist and owned and operated The Gazebo Hair Salon and won numerous awards for her work including; 1st place of Arkansas Convention Student Competition, 1st place in Arkansas Cosmetologist Association and 1st place of the Maggie Patrick Hair Styling Competition.

She also spent time working in real estate, at Oaklawn Jockey Club, and Allied Van Lines, but her true passion was working as a caregiver.

Nancy cared for others immensely and did a lot of volunteer work in the community even winning the award for Volunteer of the Year Award for mental health. She volunteered for the Garland County Mental Health Association, Hometowner Rehabilitation and Nursing Service Center where she was treasurer, a PTA member, Senior Citizen Center and was the Health and Safety Chairman of the Garland County Extension Homemakers.

Meeting her in heaven are her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Eileen Clark; brother, Terry Gilmore; sister, Betty Furr; half-brother, Jimmy Clark; grandson, Aaron W. Strickland and great grandson, Elijah Jackson.

Nancy's loving survivors include her children; Michael Smith (Rita), Gregory Smith (Heather), Kevin Smith (Trina) and Stacey Strickland (Bennie); grandchildren, Derek Franklin (Jill), Crystal Smith, Whitney Williams, Taylor Jackson (James), Sydney Strickland, Hayley Hollingsworth, Christopher Smith, Hannah Hollingsworth, Allen Smith and Brody Smith and seven great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Nan's New Life will be held Friday at 10:00 A.M. at Gross Funeral Home.

Burial at Crestview Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Michael Smith, Gregory Smith, Kevin Smith, Christopher Smith, Allen Smith, Eddie Daugherty, Bennie Strickland and Derek Franklin.

Honorary Pallbearers are Karen Pinkston, Sandy Diderich, Karen Boone, The CoCo Family, Dr. William Cole, Dr. P. Ross Bandy and the UAMS ICU staff.
