Alton T. Montgomery of Perryville, passed on to be with the Lord Jesus, on March 22, 2011, at the age of 84, while at his home. He was an honor to his God, his country and his family. Alton was born on Petit Jean Mtn., July 10, 1926, to Otis and Maudie Montgomery. Alton worked as a stone mason and also served in the world's greatest Navy during WWII. He returned home as a Veteran to marry Marcelle Hawkins, his Bride of 65-years.
They made their home Maumelle Creek Valley, where they had both grown up. There, they raised three daughters; Judy Montgomery, Janey Daniel (Leroy) and Regina Moore (Larry). They gave Alton and Marcelle seven grandchildren; Jimmy Daniel, Sharon and Paul Tom Bailey, Holly Daniel Hayes, Jeanette Daniel (who welcomes him home in Heaven), Jennifer Bailey Rankin and Stephanie Moore Black. From their unions, they produced nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-granchildren for Alton and Marclle.
Alton and his family celebrated the Lord Jesus Christ and served Him most of their lives, in fellowship at the Harmony Baptist Church in Maumelle Valley (William's Jct.). No viewing will be held. Services will be provided by the North Little Rock Funeral Home, held at the church on Saturday, March 26th, at 10 a.m., located at 3195 Highway 10. There will be an informal reception following the funeral on Saturday, around noon, at Marcelle's home. The family will be receiving guests throughout the week at Marcelle's home, Wednesday-Friday from noon, until evening.

*Alton Montgomery was born on July 10 in 1926, to his parents Odas Montgomery and Maudie Boyett Montgomery on Petit Jean Mountain, Conway Co., Arkansas. He grew up partly on Petit Jean, and in Williams Junction and Bigelow in Perry County. He mostly went to Perryville schools up until the ninth grade.

Alton and his family mostly attended the Harmony Baptist Church in Williams Junction. His sisters are Jean, Barbara and, Jerry Lynn, and Pat- Patricia.

Alton joined the Navy service in about 194243 and served until 1945. He married his wife Marcelle Hawkins in 1944. They had three daughters together; Judy Carolyn Montgomery Bailey / Doherty, Janey Sharon Montgomery Daniel, and Regina Marcelle Montgomery Moore.

Alton worked in the Navy as a cook and a driver, mostly deployed to the South Pacific. After World War II ended, he drove a truck for a cookie bakery plant and later I drove a cement truck for granite mountain rock Quarry, both in Little Rock. He worked for himself also as a rock Mason, building fireplaces foundations and houses. Alton also built three different houses for his family in Perry County. He and his wife Marcel owned 80 acres in Perry County and operated a farm and ranch on their property. Which included cows horses chickens and vegetables.
Alton loved to hunt and fish and be in the outdoors. He was very organized and clean and you can often find him out mowing with his tractor or walking with his dogs or sitting on his rocking chair on the porch contemplating life.

Alton gave his life to the Lord in the 1970s. He was a righteous & integral leader man. In his latter years of life he had a very tender heart for the Lord and enjoyed watching Christian television and he and his wife served faithfully at their church Harmony Baptist, and donated what they could to the Lord. They were well greatly loved & respected by their church family, the community, their children and grandchildren.

Alton dealt with Parkinson’s disease in the last seven years of his life. He passed away at home (25 Montgomery Lane) on March 22, 2011.
His funeral service was at the Harmony Baptist Church. And he is buried at the harmony cemetery, next to his wife Marcelle.
