*Obituary

On the evening of Friday December 15, 2017, peacefully and in the comfort of her home, Lottie Mae Bennett Cook, 88, went to be with the Lord. Lottie was born February 9, 1929, to the late Arthur Bennett and Lydia Osborne Bennett in McRae, Arkansas. After the death of her mother at age 7, Lottie went to live with family friends Raymond and Betty Bond of McRae. Lottie lived with The Bond family until adulthood and considered them her foster parents.

Lottie attended McRae High School where she graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1946. A year later, on January 26, 1947, she married her childhood sweetheart and husband of 58 years Weaver “Hot” Cook. The young couple made their home in North Little Rock’s Park Hill neighborhood where they lived for the next 30 years during which time Lottie kept busy raising their three boys. A terrific cook, Lottie could most often be found in her kitchen, tending to a pie in the oven or making dinner for a sick friend or neighbor who’d lost a loved one. Lottie was a home maker not because of the tasty meals she made or the adoration for her husband that was impossible not to notice; rather it was a special ability to make almost any place feel like home simply with her presence. A faithful member of the McRae Church of Christ, and more recently the Lawson Road Church of Christ in Little Rock, Lottie loved to read the Bible and study God’s Word. Her deeply held beliefs from its teachings were evident in every part of her life. Lottie’s strong faith, kind heart, and gracious, loving way touched many lives. She was an inspiration to all who knew her, and will be greatly missed.

Lottie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and foster parents. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Raymond Bennett and Johnny Bennett, and sister, Evelyn Bennett Simmons, and one great grandchild Laynie Leigh Johnston.

She is survived by her three sons, Bruce Cook and his wife Caroline of Seattle, Washington; Roger Cook and his wife Jane of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Mark Cook and his wife Jenny of Little Rock. She was blessed and very devoted to her six grandchildren, Casey Curtis (Veronica), Eric Cook, Alex Cook, Joey Cook (Layne), Michelle Johnston (Jacob), and Brock Cook. Her great grandchildren, Avery Witty, Tyson Johnston, Blaine Cook, Kailyn Curtis, and Macy Curtis also brought great joy to her life.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice Home Care and Carolyn Reed, Lottie’s caregiver and friend. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to John 3:16 Ministries in Batesville,

Family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home, with burial in Weir Cemetery. Arrangements by Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home.
