MARY KATHERINE TURSKY, 84, passed away on January 13, 2020. She was born on November 21, 1936 in Kenosha, Wis. After her parents died when she was just a child, she was raised by her grandmother, an immigrant from Germany who spoke little English. She became a lifelong nurse after graduating from nursing school at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, Wis. She worked in hospitals in Wisconsin and, after moving to Arkansas, in Huntsville and Hot Springs. She also served as director of the nursing home in Huntsville for many years. She could treat almost any ailment with a hot compress. She had an amazing green thumb that always resulted in beautiful flower beds and plentiful vegetable gardens – she loved digging in the dirt! After retirement she and her husband Dan moved to a mountain top near Perryville, where they spent some of their happiest years. Her home was always warm and welcoming. She brought joy to everyone she met.
She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Mary Romanshek, her father William Romanshek, and her mother Madeline Werner Romanshek, all of Kenosha, Wisconsin, as well as her husband of 59 years, Dan Thomas Tursky of Perryville. She leaves behind her children Michael Tursky (Kimberly), Betsy Tursky Aronson (Jim), Danny Tursky (Kristin) and Anne Tursky, as well as seven Tursky grandchildren: Hayden, Sydne, Madeline, Simon, Ethan, Mary Kate and Jenna.
A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Holy Souls Church, 1003 N. Tyler Street, Little Rock, on Monday, January 18 at 2:00. Masks must be worn, and social distancing will be enforced. A private graveside service will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Little Italy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church in Little Italy or the Humane Society of Pulaski County.
